ACTS Law Announces $73 Million Conditional Settlement in Alliance of American Football Class Action

Los Angeles, CA – May 27, 2022 – Attorneys from ACTS Law, LLP and Thompson Coburn, LLP who represented hundreds of former players in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) are proud to announce a conditional $73 million settlement in a class action against the estate of now-defunct football league.
The class action was filed in April 2019 after the startup league abruptly ceased operations after less than a season. In the class-action filed on behalf of the league’s former players, represented by Boris Treyzon and Jonathon Farahi, the parties agreed that the Estate of the Alliance of American Football was to pay the remainder of the players’ contract: the final two payments of the 2019 season and the final two years of the three-year contract in full.
Some class members were stuck in hospitals with injuries, unable to deal with their medical bills. Others were stranded in cities without their promised compensation. The lawsuit cited breach of contract, failure to pay wages and other employment-related issues. The class received a secured claim of $13,650 each for the 2019 season and an unsecured claim for the final two seasons of the three-year contract.
Settlement payments are contingent upon the bankruptcy estate receiving sufficient funds to fully fund its claims. ACTS Law has been retained by the Trustee to pursue these recoveries. The settlement and engagement have been approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
ACTS Law partners Boris Treyzon and Danny Abir worked on this settlement, as well as ACTS LAW Of-Counsel, Jonathon Farahi. Thompson Coburn Partners Katie Clark, Nicole Williams and attorney John Atkins worked on this settlement as well.
